Session Waru

All things artsy & crafty... AND technological... What a massive day... I am definitely feeling much more optimistic about how I can implement the Digital Technologies curriculum within my programme. Today's session enabled me to consider some possible new units that I could run with my music students.  The most exciting idea I formulated today was the development of a unit around 'GAMING' music.  Students could create their 'game' using the fundamentals of coding, as well as analyse gaming music, leading to composing their own soundtracks to accompany their game.  This has huge potential, is culturally responsive to a significant portion of my students who are very 'into' gaming.  I'm excited by the potential of what could be created... and it fits in with the Manaiakalani 'Learn, Create, Share' kaupapa. I have already engaged in some ako conversations with my year 9's - they thrived on the idea that they were the experts in thi...

DFI Session Whitu

Google Hangouts... How could I use this - with purpose, effectively, in my class room practice... I guess... it could be a great way to engage in a rehearsal where everyone is at different venues?  Which could definitely come in handy when students have a broad range of commitments and are unable to attend a rehearsal at the same time...  Although I'm not certain of the quality of the sound produced?  (This would require an excellent wifi connection for all students involved...)  A potentially good idea in theory perhaps... A great way to collaborate ideas in the early stages of music composition... the muses don't always appear in the timetabled hours at school - so if students are able to connect outside of school this could be a way that they can brainstorm/jam musical ideas together? Something to ponder...

DFI session ono (04/05/18)

Learning from today: Created a much more effective plan for developing an engaging Site students can navigate more easily and with more interest... Created buttons and links to relevant pages on my subject site Altered the settings of my site to be easily accessible for the public... Awesome to have the opportunity to spend a significant chunk of time dedicated to site (re)development... and also check out other sites to see what is possible... classic 'you don't know, what you don't know..." Highly effective one-one time made the entire process so much less cumbersome!! Which is awesome!!  The idea of setting up sites had previously been somewhat 'terrifying' but now I am feeling more at ease about it... and more motivated to sort my site out properly for ease of use for both my students and me. Baby Steps...  https://sites.google.com/tamaki.ac.nz/muspa/home

DFI 2018 - Session Wha

Share: Embed and Rewind Content Time to reflect and share with colleagues What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?           Using digital technology to enhance and 'hook' students into learning.  Aiming to accelerate            learning for students.           What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? Hapara  - review session with students re: where to store/save their work in folder so it is more accessible for all to be able to provide feedback etc.   What did I learn that could be used with my learners?   Screencastify : how can i utilise this in my programmes?  Students rehearsing lines, reading out loud - getting used to the sound of their own voice, recording live drama/music performances - this will be a handy tool for students to review their own performa...

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? What did I learn that could be used with my learners?   What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Pepeha - using google slides to add a visual dimension to pepeha... Slides - shortcuts, explore tool... Youtube channels - great way to monitor what students are able to view - to minimise the potential to land on unrelated content... This is going to be excellent for completing 'focussed listening' activities with students...

Session Rua reflection

. Session Rua: 😲 Wow!!! I have so much catching up to do - I feel like I have just crawled out of a cave... Plato's allegory of the cave, perhaps? am I a 'convertee' inspired by the enlightened ones who return to explain what they have seen in the 'light'? Key learnings today: Forms - huge potential for formative and summative assessment, online quizzes, basic 'getting to know' students... collecting, measurable formative/summative data etc. Sheets - great for data analysis, tracking student progress (music theory, blog posts?) Blogging - I really need to implement this ASAP within my programmes - I will catch up with Karen to get an urgent tutorial... Sites - I have learned that this is the preferred method of sharing learning activities etc. with students and colleagues... I have started my site, however, it is by no means that workable or useful for my students... yet? work in progress... My Maps - can be useful for music works, genre ...

DFI Reflection Session Tahi

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? Great to begin the day with some history of the local Glen Innes area as well as the whakapapa of Manaiakalani.  I look forward to continuing to learn more as we move through this programme.  I was particularly inspired by the whanau voice captured, and their communication of wanting their tamariki and whanau to be able to have the same educational opportunities as some outer communities.  Education is definitely a powerful tool in addressing issues of inequity and inequality and I am excited to be a part of this moving forward!! What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? Effective digital filing systems for ease of use! sharing of docs  using the 'share' function as a small group learning tool Reframing my view of digital learning i.e. refer to the 'device' being the pencil and the 'cloud' as the exercise book... on...
